X / TWITTER TRANSCRIPTION

Convert a public X (Twitter) video to text.

Paste the link to one public post on X that contains a video. Media2Text checks the playable audio and turns the speech into an editable, timestamped transcript.

Only concrete public video URLs are checked. Private, live, playlist, login-gated, restricted and DRM sources are not supported.

What this workflow gives you

One post, one video

Use the status link of a single public post with a video. Profiles, lists, search results and Spaces are not transcription sources.

Quotable text

Timestamps make it quick to verify a quote from a statement, interview clip or press briefing before you cite it.

Captions for reposting

If the clip is yours, export SRT or VTT to add accurate captions when you publish it elsewhere.

How it works

  1. Copy the post link. Open the post on x.com or twitter.com and copy its address, which contains /status/ followed by a number.
  2. Paste and verify it. Media2Text checks that the post is public and that its video has playable audio.
  3. Review and export. Check names and figures against playback, then export text, data or captions.

Why transcribe videos on X?

X is where statements, interview clips, product announcements and breaking news are often posted first. Video posts are quick to watch but hard to quote: you need to replay a clip several times to copy a sentence exactly. A transcript gives you the words in seconds, with timestamps to verify each line.

Journalism and fact-checking

Before quoting a public figure, check the exact wording against the audio. A timestamped transcript lets you cite the moment and keep a record alongside the post URL and the date you accessed it.

Monitoring and research

Communications, policy and research teams often track what is said in public video posts. Export CSV or JSON to collect segments from many clips in a spreadsheet or analysis tool.

Repurposing your own clips

If the clip is yours, the transcript can become a thread, a blog paragraph or captions for the same clip on other platforms.

What the transcript includes

The transcript covers the spoken audio of the video. The text of the post, replies, quote posts, community notes and words shown on screen are not included. Short clips with music or crowd noise may produce partial words, so review them with playback.

When a link does not work

A post can be deleted, made protected or limited by region after it was published, and some media on X is not publicly playable. Each link is checked before a task is created, but availability can still change before extraction finishes. If the video is yours, upload the original file instead; video to text extracts audio in your browser so the full video is not uploaded.

Ideas for using X video transcripts

Video posts on X move quickly and are hard to search later. A transcript lets you find a specific claim, compare what was said across several posts and quote it accurately with a timestamp. Analysts use transcripts to track announcements, creators use them to repurpose clips into threads, and newsrooms use them to check statements before reporting. Save the post URL with every transcript, because posts can be edited, deleted or made private after you transcribe them.

Reviewing the transcript before you use it

Automatic transcription gives you a fast, timed draft. Before you publish, quote or share it, spend a few minutes on the parts that matter most. Rename the speaker labels so every export shows real names. Use find and replace for names, brands and technical terms that appear more than once. Then click the timestamps for the passages you will actually quote and listen to them: overlapping voices, background music and fast speech are where errors cluster. The editor keeps the text and the audio together, so checking a line takes seconds instead of scrubbing through the whole recording.

Exports, languages and limits

Download TXT, Markdown, DOCX, PDF, CSV, TSV, JSON, SRT or VTT. Media2Text documents 60 transcription languages with automatic language identification. A translated transcript track keeps the original timing, which helps when you follow statements made in another language. The free trial includes up to 2 lifetime transcription tasks sharing 75 minutes in total, with no credit card.

Quote accurately and fairly

Speech recognition produces a strong draft, not a certified record. Check every quotation against the audio, keep quotes in context and credit the account that posted the video. Follow X's terms and applicable copyright law when you republish.

Questions and limits

Which X links work?

Status links to one public post, on either x.com or twitter.com, such as x.com//status/. Public-link import is currently in Beta.

Can it transcribe protected accounts?

No. Posts from protected accounts and other login-gated content are rejected.

Can it transcribe X Spaces?

No. Spaces and live broadcasts are not supported. Use the link of a public post that contains a recorded video.

Does the transcript include the post text or replies?

No. It is created from the video's spoken audio only. Post text, replies and on-screen text are not included.
