FACEBOOK TRANSCRIPTION

Convert a public Facebook video to text.

Paste the link to one public Facebook video or Reel. Media2Text checks that the recording is publicly playable, then turns its speech into an editable, timestamped transcript.

Only concrete public video URLs are checked. Private, live, playlist, login-gated, restricted and DRM sources are not supported.

What this workflow gives you

Videos and Reels

Use a link to a single public video, Reel or fb.watch short link. Pages, profiles, groups and feeds are not transcription sources.

Timestamped transcript

Every segment carries a timestamp, so you can click back to the exact moment and check names, numbers and quotes.

Captions and documents

Export SRT or VTT captions for reuse, or DOCX and PDF for notes, reports and research.

How it works

  1. Copy the video link. Open the specific Facebook video or Reel and copy its address from the browser or the Share menu.
  2. Paste and verify it. Media2Text checks that the video is public and has playable audio before creating a task.
  3. Review and export. Rename speakers, correct key terms with find and replace, then export text or captions.

Why transcribe Facebook videos?

Facebook is where many organisations publish livestream replays, community announcements, webinars, local news segments and short Reels. A transcript turns that video into text you can search, quote and reuse without rewatching it. It also gives viewers who watch without sound, or who are deaf or hard of hearing, a way to follow along.

Repurpose your own Page videos

If you manage a Facebook Page, the transcript of a livestream replay can become a blog recap, a newsletter section or subtitles for clips you share on other platforms. Export SRT for video editors and DOCX for writers.

Research and documentation

Researchers, journalists and policy teams often need a record of what was said in a public video. A timestamped transcript with the video URL is easier to cite and compare than notes taken while watching.

Captions for accessibility

Many people scroll Facebook with the sound off. If the video is yours, accurate captions improve accessibility and help viewers understand the message in the first few seconds.

What the transcript includes

The transcript comes from the spoken audio. Speaker labels separate voices into turns, which you can rename. Post captions, comments, reactions, stickers and text shown on screen are not part of the result. Background music and crowd noise in event videos can reduce accuracy, so review those passages with playback before you reuse them.

When a link does not work

Each link is checked before a task is created, but Facebook videos can still become unavailable: a Page may change the audience, delete the post or restrict it by region. If the link route fails and the video is yours, download it from your Page and upload the file instead. The video to text workflow extracts audio in your browser so the full video is not uploaded.

Ideas for using Facebook video transcripts

Social media managers use transcripts to turn a long Facebook Live replay or page video into a blog post, a newsletter section or a set of short quotes. Researchers and journalists use them to keep an accurate written record of a public statement with timestamps they can cite. Community groups use them to share what was said in a public event video with members who prefer reading. In each case, keep a link to the original video next to the transcript so readers can check the context.

Reviewing the transcript before you use it

Automatic transcription gives you a fast, timed draft. Before you publish, quote or share it, spend a few minutes on the parts that matter most. Rename the speaker labels so every export shows real names. Use find and replace for names, brands and technical terms that appear more than once. Then click the timestamps for the passages you will actually quote and listen to them: overlapping voices, background music and fast speech are where errors cluster. The editor keeps the text and the audio together, so checking a line takes seconds instead of scrubbing through the whole recording.

Exports, languages and limits

Download TXT, Markdown, DOCX, PDF, CSV, TSV, JSON, SRT or VTT. Media2Text documents 60 transcription languages with automatic language identification, and you can create a translated transcript track that keeps the original timing. The free trial includes up to 2 lifetime transcription tasks sharing 75 minutes in total, with no credit card. Paid plans have unlimited uploads and are limited only by transcription minutes.

Use other people's videos responsibly

Transcribing a public video for research, commentary or accessibility is common, but republishing someone else's words in full may need permission. Credit the original Page or creator and follow Facebook's terms and the copyright rules where you publish.

Questions and limits

Which Facebook links work?

Links to one public video: facebook.com/watch?v=…, facebook.com/reel/…, facebook.com//videos/ and fb.watch short links. Public-link import is currently in Beta.

Can it transcribe videos from private groups or friends-only posts?

No. Private, friends-only, group-only and other login-gated videos are rejected.

Can it transcribe a Facebook Live stream?

Not while it is live. Once a live broadcast is saved as a public video, you can try the saved video link.

Does it copy the post caption or comments?

No. The transcript is created from the spoken audio. Post text, comments and on-screen text are not included.
